Alright ya Degenerates! Listen up!
My Pops is looking for a bunch of opinions and, as usual, he doesn't listen to me...so...He wants to know what y'all think about the 454 vs. 6.2L. He's looking for a square (lets keep the ongoing debate outta this one) to pull his 5th wheel with.
He and my Mom go out about once/twice a month for a weekend at a time, so he's not exactly traversing the globe here.
My opinion (as if it matters) was this: Given the rarity of finding a decent 6.2, I'd go with the 454. It'll pull just as well, and the availability of clean 454's will always trump the 6.2's. He's not a full-timer, so the diesel power isn't as critical @ this time. However, if a nice 6.2 is to be found, jump on it.
What he really wants to know is what would better suit his needs at this time.
Now, I'll be emailing my Dad this link, so...lets be nice and keep the whoring down to a minimum. I don't think he's ready for senselessness of that magnitude just yet.
OH YEAH! Shameless plug-he's trying to unload his F-150. Pass it on.
im with you... if he/you can find a 6.2 then jump on it... but there would be nothing wrong with a 454 since its just a weekend warrior type thing.
I would think 454 just becuase at least around here deisel costs more than premium. Plus I would think it would be easier/cheaper to find parts for a 454.
well you know my opinion
but toss this out to him the 6.2 coast lots more to maintain and you pay a lot more for that solvent that they run on for not much better gas milage
454 parts are readly avalible at all parts stores (witch is helpful when travling) and a well tuned 454 will get almost as good of gas milage as a diesel if not better
Yeah, he can't belive you were getting 11-12 outta your 454.
I used to get 13-14 highway with the tbi. I was getting 10 highway with the carb. I havent figured it out with the new gears yet though
i would say 454 if he a weekend warrior and not a full timer, cost and maintence and such should weigh in as a factor too
Yeah, I sorta got him hooked on Craigs List. He found that one last week. He called the guy already. I think He's gonna go look at it.
He also found an '86 454 that's super clean on Alcoas that I think he likes a little better.
*waiting for Chase to chime in...*
