I am tired of my "friends" making fun of how high my Duece sits, so I have talked Lowboy into doing my notch and laying frame. With the 19s and big ass tread I gots.. stuffing the w/t's will be an issue I will have to get the axle narrowed since I dont want to widen the fenders. Before I spend, I wanted all ya alls opion...by nice camp, and check my thinking.
Backing plate to backing plate is 56" now. In order to tuck my wheels and tires I will have to clear the lip and the taper which I have measured out at about 3" per side. It seems to be about 2 1/2, but im rounding. Take an extra inch for clearance gives me about 49" backing plate to backing plate.
This may be a little tight, whaddya think? I have been calling around looking for this size axle, if not I will have one built.
Lastly, I like highway speeds and I wont be towing anything more than a car or truck with this thing. Currently, at 80 Im turning about 3000rpm, so I wanna go to a little taller gear like a 373. I will get some top end and loose a little acceleration, but i can make some of that up with some performance upgrades.
whats the question?????
get a cab and chassis rear. they run 44' to 46' normally. and you wont have to pay to have your rear narrowed
To be clear...two questions.
1. Is 49 inches backing plate to backing plate narrow enough to roll layed out without rubbing?
2. Based on my needs (not hauling to much wieght) would it be a good idea to go the 3.73s? I like to drive 85 down the highway... Do any of you have 3.73 gears...how do you like it?
What is this anyway...pics?
i just had 3.42's put in my rear end so i will let you know when i accually get to drive it. which should be some time this week.
Lophat its in my garage...94 crewcab
Thanks RHM...got lottsa questions for you.
no problem, i will try to answer them.
yea i want to put 373's in mine too... i need better gas mileage on the highway.. way better than my 410's
