how to lower my 94 sonata

Ok I have a 1994 Hyundai Sonata. I just put some 17" G-Racing IMARI wheels on it and it still sits at the same hight, I thought that going with a 3" bigger wheel would make it look lower. so now im going to lower it and i thought that i should just cut a couple coils out of the springs. would that work?
