toolbox, i'd go with craftsman or kobalt (from lowes), they look pretty good and won't break the bank like snap on
tools, i'd start with the 120 piece mechanics set by channel lock at Sam's club for $60, has 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive ratchets, plus 10 standard and metric sockets for all of them, allen wrenches, nutdrivers, etc. awesomely easy to take a lot to a show or something.
bench grinder, 4 1/2" angle grinder, jigsaw, welder, plasma cutter if you can afford it, creeper seat (if you're a fat lazy ass like me), screwdrivers, pliers, channel locks, crescent wrenches. That should get you off to a good start. Since Sears and Kmart merged, you can get good craftsman stuff at Kmart now, not too expensive, either.
Oh yeah, cordless drill, sawzall, and some kind of sander.
The more money you spend on a fancy tool box the less you can spend on your truck. I am poor so that is my two cents worth.
KObalt (from lowes) from what I heard are made by craftsman. They both have a life time warranty. I would focus on buying the tools you need instead of the big trophy box. You can always get a bigger box down the road and retire the smaller on to your home garage. The stainless tool boxes at costco look good and are pretty cheap.
What i did was bought a nice size craftsman box. Cheap series without the roller ball bearing drawers and then bought some of my basic tools i knew i would use a shit load and bought some of the more specialty tools as I ran into needing them. Now my 15 drawer box is stuffed and i need another. Another tool brand that I am pretty pleased with is Cresent. I bought a cresent set with a full set of sockets in metric and sae with 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive for pretty cheap and love it. Now the case it came in sucks pretty bad but i have no complaints out of the tools and they have a lifetime warranty also. I've had my set going on 2 years and the only thing i have had replaced is the 1/4" drive rachet but hell that thing gets a shit load of use. Craftsman is my favorite brand to buy. Reasonably priced and lifetime warranty. You can take a tool in 7 days a week if something should happen. Snap On and Matco are great tools also. Just a little to high priced for me for what i'm getting. and you have to wait for the truck to come back around to get something replaced if it broke. Just my
if it were me id save up and get the biggest and baddest tool box there is cuz i like to buy the best the first go around so i dont have to buy things twice cuz you usually tear up the cheap shit quick. with the tools id make a "tools im most likely gunna use the most list" and buy those first. then id go get all the extra tools as i needed them.
word^^
all of the craftsman boxes i've seen that were more than 6 years old are pretty trashed. the industrial ones hold up a little better.
snap on is super pimp, and really nice, but its expensive as hell. i purchased a matco box due to the price vs. quality ratio.
all of the old snap on and matco boxes i've seen hold up really well... and its easier to get slides and other parts that you need from a distributor rather than the people at sears.
you can get a decent 2 bay rollaway in the 3500-5500 price range.
WHAT!!! 160pc for 60 bucks thats a score(whats sams club tho?). ive looked into the kobalts it is very good deal i think, i ended up buying a cheap stack of craftsmen boxs, prob was i just had to buy a stanly box cuz i have way to many tools and i still need another box, so if i were you i would go look at the kobalts therre big, cheap, and are covered by war.
oh yea and dont get the craftsmen, mine are falling apart on the sliders after just two years. make sure you get bearing sliders
keep in mind guys that i want this to last for ever is for a shop.. daily use....
