Gonna buy a TIG welder

I have finally gotten to the point where I want to start leaning how to tig so I can have really clean and strong welds when I bag my yota... which is hopefully going to happen after this semester.

What model jumps out in your mind, what would you experienced chassis guys recomend? I'm looking at Miller econo-tigs, and my budget is under $2000, preferable less, and I'm thinking a used one will be just as good, as long as I go with the brand names.

Thanks, Matt

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a mig? Well good luck. I'd say the miller would work well. I use them alot but i only do body work and mines mig. Good luck finden one.

I have a Lincoln mig for body work, but its only 100amps so it won't do big stuff, so I was going to buy another welder, and I figured I would look for a tig. I think its a good skill to have anyway.

yeah i know a guy that does bags and b/d's in his own shop who uses only mig welders but i saw him do a bag job the other day with a tig cause he was outta mig gas. And it looked okay but not like his mig welds. He said it was a bitch to deal with cause the foot control and what not. But good luck with yours. Hope you get one thats gona work for ya.

A Tig welder is much more time consuming then doing a project with a mig welder. The Tig welder leaves much cleaner welds (IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!) I would suggest something with a liquid cooled torch... Something like the Linclon 185 w/ the torch. Or the Miller similar model would be cool too!

That is a decent welder for your price range... The Linclon Invertecs are sweet if your willing to spend the money & are nice w/ aluminum!

as long as you can adjust the heat settings and wire speed on your welder you shouldn't have any problems....just make sure you get both metals fused well by getting them nice and hot.

Buy the miller air cooled sincrowave 200 it works great. It will do light duty sheet metal and it will also do thick material like frames. It's one of the two tig wekders we have in the shop. new i think it was under 2000. if you shop around. Take your time and dont be in a hurry.
