I have to get my truck smogged soon already this month. My question is: Is it possible to smog a truck that has no stock gauges (I have aftermarket autometer guauges). I did the newer style dash swap on it (its a nissan hardbody), and don't have the stock cluster.
Anyone else had problems before with something similar?
actually yea i have. i have an 87 with a 97 dash, 2 years ago when i had it smogged the cluster wasnt even hooked up. This russian dood was pretty cool about it and said it was ok. I let him honk the air horn and he was all smiles after that lol. i need to smog it again this month, my cluster is funtional this time but im still gunna take to the same guy.
i think it depends on the place.. ive heard some of the guys can be dicks about not having a check engine light cause that tells them right off the bat if it is gonna fail. also ive been told some places will fail people based on a fuel cell even if using the senders and pump that came on a stock vehicle. so yea you might wanna get a "test smog" done so you dont waste the 50-80 bucks cause they failed you visually..
theres a place in my town i love going to cause the guys there could give a shit less as long as it meets their visuals and the car actully passes the dyno...
cause ive taken a dodge neon there n it hadnt had an oil or spark plug change in over a year, was missing the plastic intake tubing that goes over the engine to limit the air intake. and the check engine bulb was out god i love that place...

Yeah that was one of the concerns my bro was telling me about the check eng. light. The last time I took it, I don't remember having a dash on it-I think it was just my old cluster on there. Everything else is fine-never messed with the engine or anyhting internal

I think I may just head out to porterville then!
in 87' nissans didnt come with a "check engine light", i dont know about an 88 tho.
i got a guy in socal that does them for 150 bucks no matter what visuals or smog problems, he was going to do my s10 but i sold it it had a check engine light from a sensor.
it all depends on the smog tech some are cool and some are duecshes
My '88 did come with it. Its the Z24 motor with 8 plugs
Anyone know of any cool shops in central california? Because im pretty sure my truck will not pass anything and just wondering if your are any shops in central cali that will help me out.
five points in riverbank is about the only chill and layed back smog shop around here. you cannot see my check engine in my truck unless you cup your hand over just took my word it worked...
he's not going to just pass you but if it does'nt pass he'll tell you exactly why and how to fix it...
