Some people cant get used to the auto darken helmets at all. I learned how to weld with an auto darken and now i own one, and its my only hood. i love mine, it has a nice big window and will allow me to TIG weld to. All my settings are adjustable.
i can get used to one, i used one when i worked for my uncle in his metalshop and i loved it. this one just likes to flash and blind me, mainly prob cuz my shop doesnt have the best lighting. the speed it darkens and shade is adjustible, i just dont think it gets dark enough, even on shade 13 compared to my shade 10 regular hood.
i have the miller real fire and skull print auto darking and love it any weld supply house should have them. i also have a an ADF metalist L i picked it up off the mac truck in 99 and it still work great and they also can be bought at napa for about a 145. one word of advice dont get the sheild with the controls on the outside of the hood unless you are table welding.i borrowed a friends to try out when i was buying my miller and when crawlin round under stuff you will bump the control and change settings .good luck with that
i got mine off ebay haha,it works good, stick and mig no problem, havent tried tig with it.
damn this one is pretty high tech. Has an air pump to give you fresh air. A little TOO advanced for a welding helmet if you ask me but whatever.
i spent 60 bux on one offa ebay, and they are still selling them. it works like a charm. its one with an auto darkening lens and i ahve been using it for 8 months straight with no problems. i say you cant beat that

i personally dont like an auto darkening helmet, i learned to weld with a flip down style helmet and i like it better. good thing about the old way is its cheap and you dont have to worry about the auto darkening lens not working or dead batteries. i have had auto darkening helmets before and they werent reliable enough for me.
