Ok, a buddy of mine has got an 03' S10 extended cab, stepside, with 2.2 and 5 speed. the truck is lowered 4/5 with chassis tech spindles, Bell Tech springs, 2" leaves, and 3 inch blocks. The problem is, when you get about into third gear, and let off the clutch you hear a ringing noise. It almost sounds like the heat shield for the exhaust, but we checked that. Everything under the truck is tight, we put a spacer under the carrier bearing(?) tonight and took it around the block. Same thing!!!! we thought the drive shaft might be at a bad angle-reason for spacer-but that didn't seem to help the problem. Any help is appreciated. sorry this is so long, just trying to explain it the best i can

couple things:

check your pinion angle. you may need pinion shims if its out of whack

check if driveline is rubbing anything. this usually creates a high pitch whine

check the u-joints. this usually causes a vibration, but it could also make noise. bad ujoints is usually from incorrect pinion angle.

bad or squeeky u joints are usually heard at real low speeds or all the time....he described that around 3rd you hear it....see if the drive shaft is pushed into the tranny and check to see if that tailshaft bearing has play of if the tail shaft seal is leaking or worn...pinion angle is another thing to def. check....
