i have a 4.3 tbi that has numerous probs in the past, so i feel you the root of my problems was due to a huge cam that was put in during the rebuild, and the ecu could not keep up with it.
---first check MAF (left side of the thottle body with small wire harness on one side and vacume line coming off)
---next check CTS coolent temp sensor (front of the intake by the coolent neck houseing)
---next check o2 sensor (on the exhaust pipe right after the Y off the couplers.
more than likely one of hose will be your prob, trust me check those (buy new ones they are cheap)
had the same prob on my 1500 and it was cause i forgot to plug in the maf sensor when i put it back together oops
i had the same problem with my 96 and all i did was spend alot of money cause i dident try the easy shit, i turned the distributor nd it runs like a champ now
I had the same thing happening with mine long ago, tried a whole bunch of stuff and it ended up being the fuel filter. It always seems to be the last place you look.
