im guessing those rails from applied racing are also very thin wall tubing.
This is the disclaimer listed on their webpage:
NOTE: Modification or removal of stock rear trunk floor is necessary for proper installation, along with the addition of an 8 or 10 point roll cage.
It would require a rollcage for structure since its built out of thin wall tubing. Same reason Cris is building reinforcements on that s10 backhalf.
Nah, 1/8 wall like Art Morrison. None of that .083 for me. They are actually pretty strong. I have some pics on flikr of some I installed, but don't know how to post here.

yeah i was surprised how thin those summit rails were when james bought a set. they might work fine if you built a full cage out of tubing to support the bed and tied everything together, but i would prefer to run 1/8 wall. those autoweld frames seem like they are really nice, but ive never had one personally.

The ones I saw on Summit and Jegs all had wrinkles in the bends, meaning they were either VERY thin tubing, or not mandrel bent. The Applied ones have no wrinkles or flats.
The autowelds do look nice, however.

yeah the ones from summit are .083, which if I remember correctly is equivalent to a little thicker than 14 gauge.
next time I need some I am going to give them a ring.

I have used EMJ and havn't heard of them bending it, but maybee, they are good to tubing from. Why not just weld your frame, it will be stronger than having it bent.

how could you think it would be stronger by welding?

when u bend your rails you actually are stretching the metal, so you have a thinner area..
