i took my truck to scrape n' customs to have a full frame, suicide doors, tilt bed, molding of the fender as well as some other things... the total bill was in excess of $13,000... the truck took over 4 months longer to complete then qouted (because of moving shop location, ect.. ect..) i never once complained about the competion being pushed back.. i only asked that i be allowed to come up and take pics of the "progress" which they were very accomidating... after i was told the truck would be finished and drove 1 1/2 hours to pick it up.. i was told to come back tomorrow which i did and the truck was still not completed.. not being able to drive up again the following day the truck was delivered to my house... the fabrication on the truck was awesome and the quality i have no complains on... though what happened next is why i will NEVER return to them or recommend them..
we noticed after a couple days that there was oil in garage under the rear end.. so we called them up and with them on the phone and they talked us thru checking the oil and the bolt on the chuck.. we found that the bottom three bolts on the chunk were only hand tight and the source of where the oil was comming from.. we checked the fluid level and there was zero oil in the pumpkin.. we tightened them down and filled it back up and they said it would be fine..
now, it made no noise before we took the truck to them.. it made no noice the first couple days after we got it back from them.. after we filled the fluid back up, it started making a high pitch whine started around 40 mph and got louder and higher pitch the faster we went... i called them up and they said to bring it back to them... i asked, (fearing the transmission as i have driven a truck with no tanny oil in it before) if i should drive it or tow it back up.. they said to drive it.. Still being leary of the the tranny i had AAA tow it up there... they looked at the truck and one of their employee's took the truck for a drive on the road... they admitted to me that they rushed the truck and didnt test it as they should have.. the head fabricater also admitted to me those three bolts weren't tightened and EVEN GAVE ME THE REASON THAT THE IMPACT WRENCH WOULDNT FIT and that he forgot to go back and tighten them.. i was told that that the noise was NOT commin from the transmission or the rear end (as he hung his head out while test driving and didnt hear noise from the rear of the truck) and that all i needed was to dynomat the truck and that would take care of the noise and was sent driving it home... long story short (and i am pissed and can drag this out lol) i was told to take it somewhere to have it fixed and they would cover the cost of repairs.. i took it to a shop and scrapin requested to see the dammage but according to the shop never SHOWED UP TO LOOK AT IT (i went down and took pictures just incase) and then said daytona drive train would rebuild the whole rear end for $400 so they were only going to pay $400 of the $530 bill... they also told me that shops had a habbit of "inflating the bill" which they were not going to be the one to pay for it.. i was to come up with the rest.. we told them that we didnt care who fixed it as long as it were fixed..
also we have indiglo gauges that were working when the truck was taken to them and not when the truck was received from them.. they said that since they were "cheep enough" they were gonna replace them...
at slamfest i didnt speak one negitive word about them, i was just saying the truck was built by a shop in florida and not giving them credit because of the way they were treating us... i had a confrontation with one of their employees at the show on sunday, where i was told that since i had not decided to be in their dealer booth in the sponcer section promoting for them, they very annoyed.. the employee also stated that because we were not in their dealer booth he felt "we should not appease you any longer by replacing the gauges" that were broken at their shop.. in the confrontation i also told him that with the money i had spent in their shop, i could have purchaced the brand new X-runner next to me and he said to me very flatly "but you didnt"... i told him that i didnt care who fixed it as long as it was fixed as it was no fault of mine and he said that "from a business stand point it makes no sense to drive down to pick up the truck and trailer it back to daytona and have it fixed then trailer it back down to me, then it would to have me fix it locally" (meaning it would cost more for them).. i dont quite understand how in getting stuck with the bill on this as i did it they way they wanted???
also on sunday as slamfest i came back from the burn out competion as a spectatior to find that there was a "scrape 'n customs" sticker on my truck and business cards under my windshield wiper as if it were promoting for them!!!!!!!
one final thing is that they had the exaust replaced at a cost of $100 more to me and when the truck was deliver i was handed a piece of oringinal exaust with the O2 sensor still on it and was told i need to take it to a shop to have it installed on the new exaust.. i have gotten estimates and the cheepest one i have found is $243.36...
to make this all seem worse we are repeat customers to them and have in the past spent over $35,000 in their shop... i just want an opinion as to what i should do and to let anyone and everyone who will listen, know how they will be treated if they choose to have scrape 'n customs work on their stuff..
(p.s. because i wanted to ensure that my other half was able to hear the conversation that i had on the phone with scrape n' customs, i recorder the entire converation with my digital camera with the cam corder option and i have a file with the owner of the shop saying he didnt understand how the bolt not being tighten and the truck driven lead to the rear end being burned up and had to be replaced... also in the converstion he said "you go to any truck in the lot and check the pinion seal and you will find some fluid.." since the truck has been fixed correctly there is NOT ONE SINGLE SPECK OF FLUID TO BE FOUND ON THE OUTSIDE CASING!!!!
ALSO, i went to toyota/lexus of melboure and spoke with the head michanic [master tech of 14 years] and when asked his opinion and he said that he would be willing to sign a statement that if ANY of the bolts on the chuck are not tightened to the required torque and with appropriate sealer/gasket, one trip around the block would/could destroy the rearend)
i talked with them SEVERAL times trying to avoid where we are today.. this is all over $130.00 and $70 aprox indeglo gauges after we spent thousands of dollars with them...
what would you do?
what should i do????

hmmmm what would i do? stop spending so much money on trucks. you obviously got a lot of work done.. it doesn't seem as if you paid a whole bunch for the work that was done. sounds like you got a good deal.. its a misfortune that the delivery date was set back further and further, but cusom work takes A LOT OF TIME. they probably quoted you a price, and after spending countless hours building the truck, ran out of money and started to lose money on the project. they might not have made a single dime on your truck.. who knows. but a shop owner payin his help and cost for parts and equipment, it sounds as if they didn't make much if anything. so, they were probably tired of havin the truck for so long and not makin money off it. i dunno what to say about the exhaust.. whoever did the exhaust should have been smart enough to install the O2 sensor themselves.. either way, just fix your little nit-picking stuff yourself. stop worryin about it. every custom truck has it's querks. if you have a mini, you need to know how to work on them cause at some point, you WILL have to work on it. i dunno whats wrong with the gauges, hook em up properly and if they dont work, they're defective.. DURH! cheap shit goes bad.. they might be defective.. sorry about all your hardships.. but damn.. fix it and move on.. drive it like you stole it.

the rear end was narrowed and the frame and axel were powercoated (i paid scrape 'n customs to build the frame and take it to powercoat, i paid the powercoater directly for the powercoat, they took it back from powercoat and re-assembled)
as far as them not making money.. THATS NOT MY FAULT.. yes they quoted a price.. yes i paid the price.. it seems they wouldnt be in business very long if they lost money on every thing they did doesnt it??? thats just common sense there bud... the rear end burning up is NOT nit picking.. obvously i accounted for this such as this.. why i wasnt making a big deal over the O2 sensor before.. or why one of the suicide doors doesnt close flush like the other... how about when i giggle the wires under the stearing coloum, the console lights come on...
if its so cheep.. YOU buy me replacements!!... the issue here is not the cost of fixing.. its the principal...

^^^^^^^^HORSESHIT!! if you take your truck to a shop and they quote you a price on doing some work to your truck, they should do it. doesnt matter if they started losing money, thats their fault, they should have quoted the customer higher. also, when u take your truck to a shop the work should get done properly and things on the truck that worked when it arrived at the shop should work when it leaves the shop. why would they take the diff cover off anyway?

I agree, if they lost money on that job (which I doubt) it's the shops fault, not the customers. They need get their shit together, and fix this mans truck.
