I was definately scared to buy an e-machines at first cause they def. used to be fuckn junk. The only reason I bout it was for my plotter now its an everyday thing and I have only cut it off prob 5 times this year. The next comp I will probably build. But like I said its pretty decent!

No, it's not worth waking up at the but crack of dawn, stand in line at best buy, then get told they don't don't have it in stock. but it doesn't look like a black friday ad. The PC is fine for internet, email, and word processing. But it's really not that good of a deal. Go into an office depot, grab an ad, and take a look at this one:

http://officedepot.shoplocal.com/officedepot/Default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&storeid=2279187&rapid=332950&pagenumber=9&listingid=-2094166848

$90 bucks more for a flat panel upgrade. Better processor, bigger hardrive, and cheaper after the rebate(I know the're a pain, but fill them out, you'll get them back).
I'm done being a nerd for now.

After reading some of the responses, I'm not done being a nerd,

Emachines is now owned by gateway, they are a great PC for the money. Most people don't like them from when they were a proprietary(sp?) system, and most of the problems were actually Windows 98 or ME.

If you by a dell and it comes in defective, have fun sending it back and waiting if they can't offer onsite service. And you'll pay to much. Don't be fooled by there propaganda.

The new Celeron D's are basically the old Pentium 4's, so no problem with that.

and Enigma, i havn't seen a AMD Duron Processor in a retail store for over a year.

if your worried about Windows Vista, you'll need a really good PC. Microsoft is offering a program were you can get basic for free when it comes out. If you want the superduper verson, you'll need a duel core processor for sure. Just wait untill PC's come with it in there.

With all that said, HP is making some damn nice PC's these days.

OK. Now I'm done, I think I really need to go cut something apart and weld it back together!

I agree with you KAOSS. I've never had a problem with HP puters. I think right now they have a free upgrade to Vista premium. The DUO core procs should be less now as they have core 2 duo out. In my opinion I would stick with a HP.

alienware is owned by dell now...

I'm a software architect, i don't build computers anymore, but i buy between 200 and 500 computers a year. I mostly buy indsutrial computers though, so unless you're looking for a non-conductive touch panel rack mount that isn't that great.

Basiclly the emachines are just 1 - 2 year computers. sure it'll be okay, the celeron is just bad at heat displacement, not made for anything high end. surfin the net, email, and word processing isn't taxing so you wouldn't probably notice a shit of difference.

I would check out the sales on dell's website, or check their outlet as well. (http://outlet.dell.com)

check out www.dealspl.us as well they just aggragate prices for people on products and often have good prices on desktops and laptops and current coupons etc...

everyone's going to have their own opionion on what's good and what's bad. Honestly it doesn't make a goddamn differnce. They're all the same hardware in a different case. They all buy from the same companies... it's just what level of product they buy and how much in bulk they buy it.

I'm a retard. I forgot to put the Black Friday add link up. On Black Friday they are selling it for $189.97! Not $499.99
