We use 220 at the shop obviously, but I did the backhalf rails for my buddies van at his place with our Miller 135. I was sketch about it at first, so we rewired one of his outlets to 20AMP and it welded beautiful. 2x3 3/16 and bevelled all the edges. It worked nice. Obviously 220 is the best option, but it can be done with a 110 if u take the time to do it right. Prep your materials and fishplate all your butt welds and it'll be fine if you know what you are doing.
But yeah for someone looking for an all in one welder, I'd recommend a miller 175 if u want something small. Not everyone has the space for the big machines and atleast teh 175 is 220V.

for your saftey and the saftey of everyone else on the road, take some classes at a local technical college, just cuz you have welded before and can make a bead doesn't mean you can weld. you must know what you are doin, your life is at stake, plus someone could file a lawsuit real quick if they get hurt and you are the one who did the welding and aren't certified, but buying equipent, buy a 220 millermatic, good machince and can do almost anything

My brother's truck along with mine is welded up with our old Lincoln 135. Never had anything structural "break" before. But recently got a Hobart 175 and it's nice. Don't HAVE to have a 10" penis to get the job done, just tear the walls up. (metaphor)

If you change to the smalest wire the miller 210 works fine

There is the point most everyone missed. Yes 220 is the way to go, yes take some classes, and most of all if you are going to do it yourself, have someone that is well knowledged and experienced check your work before putting it on the road. You may be fully capable, just be carefull. Your life, and the lives of those around you, rides on your suspension. Just readinf a tech article and doing the work are two totally different things. Good luck with your project!

Oh trust me, i know to take classes. Actually, i already have taken classes on welding. And I have a family friend who has taught me some while growing up, and is now willing to teach me anything i need to know. He's been a welder and metal worker for around 30 years I believe. He used to build my dad's race car frames when I was young. I'm not dumb enough to think i can do something I can't. I'm not a great welder, haven't done much, but do know that with the resources I have, I can get it done. Thus, I asked here with countless welders, before going out to buy my own machine. I knew I didn't know what one to get. That's why it's my buddy's vehicle I'm gonna start on, that way if I do fuck it up, it won't be a customer's life in hands, and we have all the time we need to get it fixed real easy seeing how he has no real deadline before it even goes on the road.
