Anyone know how to pull the diagnpstic trouble codes of an 87 B2200?

no such thing.

The "check engine" light is a interval service reminder to make you go to the dealer, it comes on at odometer intervals, not when something is actually wrong.

There are two ways to fix it. You can get under the drivers side dash and look up, there will be two similar plugs right next to each other. One is plugged in, the other is not. Unplug the connected one and plug in the unconnected one.

The second way is to pull the bulb. I recommend the second because it will never come on again, useless little waste of 5w.

I had an 88 once, it was ok looking and ran strong. I listed it in the paper for 1600 and got a lot of calls. Most of the people did not want to buy because the check engine light was on. (I didnt know how to reset it back then, but I did know it was a service reminder) SOme people offered me 1000-1200, even though I explained it was nothing at all. It didnt sell that week, so I pulled the bulb and listed it again. Sold to the _first_guy_who_came. Lesson learned.

The check engine light does stay on continually, it comes on when i drive , but as soon as i give it a lil' gas, or let go of the gas pedal, it goes away for a while...but then she comes back...then engine is running fine, i just replaced the piston rings, O2 sensor, amongst other things...can anyone help?

there is NO DIAGNOSTICS on this motor. This can be supported by the lack of a diagnostic plug, or any reference to diagnostics in the service manual. If you think your check engine light is anything but a service reminder, then I cant help you. Maybe the filament is broken and it is connecting with the inertia of acceleration. It doesnt matter. Having the light on doesnt mean squat. Having the light off doesnt mean anything either.

Pull

The

Bulb.

There is no reason for it but to make you think you need to see the dealer. If you want to keep throwing money at a 15 cent light bulb, I can't do anything for ya man.

I would check your exhaust filter on the passenger side of the truck before the cat but after the muffler. It ALWAYS trips the PCM and throws mad codes.

Thanks Russ, I didn't know it was only a service reminder. So i take it all the sensors such as the O2, are just for the carb then? Will removing the bulb cause me to fail SMOG out here in Cali? Anyone know of some truck clubs out here in NorCal bay area?

yes, all sensors are for the carb. Pulling the ecu (like when you put on a weber) doesnt turn on the check engine light so no way would pulling the bulb make you fail smog.

you need to have a light come on and then turn off once you start the truck in cali.. it sucks ass.

The only serious warnings you are going to get is the Oil light and your temp gauge reading hot.

Anything else the computer senses as being wrong and it simply disables the system or goes into limp home mode. Only way to diagnose the problems are to diagnose the symptoms by checking the parts.
