Go down to the library and get a schematic of the wiring diagram for your truck. Then go home and pull off all the wires and just start over. Thats what i had to do with my old duster. Mine had house connections and bare wire (hot) that weren't taped or anything. After that i didn't have one problem with the wiring. Cause when i redid it i taped and wrapped it all in wire loom. It's a last resort but thats what i ended up doing.

i appreciate the help bowtied. i have rewired my fair share of cars from scratch so i dont need a schematic i am just mad though because this didnt happen until i switched motors. i switched all my electrical over from the old motor and have since tested all the charging system. quite frustrating as i am sure you can understand.

Hell yes. It is EXTREMELY frustrating. I got so pissed on dealing with my wiring problems is sold the damn car. Once i got the wiring fixed under the hood the lights and dash wiring started fucken up so i sold it so it would be someone elses problem. Sorry for that guy. Good luck with yours though. If you were closer to okc id help you. But good luck anyhow.

Have you tried a new alternator? You said it puts out 14v until it misses. Both the battery light and the brake light come on, that is a classic symptom of an alternator problem. It sounds to me like your alternator has an intermittant issue. I would try a new alternator and see what happens.

according to my snapon alternator tester it is working great. this intermitant miss can be as much as 2 weeks apart of every 5 minutes.

why dont you unplug the altenator and run the truck on battery only when it starts to misfire. and see if its stops. your truck will run a while with it not hooked up. or you can have a battery charger on the battery while running it in the driveway w/o an altenator. to me sounds like you might have a diode in the alt goign out. change it with your other one and see how it runs. if not buy one and return it if its not the problem

i havent thought about running with the alt unplugged, good idea

alternators are three plug if one of those plugs quits working it will do this. i dont remember the correct name for the wires but it has to do with the stator. sounds like you need a new alt. unless the problem is at the regulator, which might be worth replacing.

sounds to me like a bad ground. try running a new (around 8 gauge) ground from the engine to the cab, engine to the frame, and cab to the frame
