hey guys, i am building a 86 toyota truck for my girl and i am having an issue. i changed motors in it and before this there were no wiring issues. i changed the motor but reused the alternator from the original motor and now i am getting a miss in my iginition everyonce in a while and also getting fluttering on and off of the parking brake light and the battery light. the alternator is showing 14 volts of charge except for when it misses it is like the whole electrical system is shutting down. i have since replace all of the original power wires with fresh 8 gauge wires except the starter wire (4gauge) and all the ground wires to 8 gauge and even a 4 gauge ground wire from the battery to the block. i am stumped pretty much, but it is pretty annoying. it is not consistent either, sometimes under heavy load sometimes just driving with no lights or stereo or anything. any help would be appreciated.

have u checked the wiring at the ignition switch? could be a bad contact in the ignition switch itself

I had this happen to me when I put in a 175 amp alt in my 87 toy from mechman, I called him and he told me to check the three wires in the alt plug one of those wires will flutter it should be a thick white wire thats what makes your parking brake light and batt light flash there on the same circuit cut that wire in half and connect that wire (harness side) to the battery that should stop the flashing. O on the missing ign.. on my truck the two wires from the distributor to the coil cracked I just cut them and replaced them and havent had a problem since. 2 years ago

well man i tried taking the white from my alternator and cutting running a wire from the harness side to the battery. the light stayed on all them time then, so i did it from the alternator side and the light went off but flickers now and then still. got any other ideas?

alright now guys update, i have updated all my grounds to 8 gauge and all power wires to 4 gauge. i have been driving it for monthes and still no fix. the alt is fine and as is the battery. i have put a voltage gauge in the truck now and even when i turn on the blinker you can see it as a voltage drop in the gauge. what is going to fix this?
