versatile?

well its a mig welder. So it only migs, so its not versatile in the sence of different welding types.

Its also a 110v welder, so its only capable of thickness up to 3/16".

.....idk how versatile you need it to be...but thats about it.

i just got the handler 180 and i love it. i think you will have to use the flux core wire to get the full 1/4 though, and even then, the machine will be workin pretty hard. other that that, i think they are great.

yea, that handler 180 is a great machine, i love mine.

and you will deff have to use flux core with the 140 to get it to reach its 1/4 max. 3/16 is what it max out at with shielding gas. The 140 is a great welder...it can do sheetmetal, and alittle beyond.. I just personally wouldnt do anything like build a frame or backhalf with it....some types of welds need more penitration than others....idk if the 140 could get the proper on each one..

i wouldnt use that on a 3/16 or 1/4....it wont get good enough penetration. is it possible yea but the welds will look raised up and look liek shit. i wouldnt use that for anythign thicker than 1/8.....FYI im a union pipefitter

shit, i use my hobart 125 for 1/4" steel all the time

it will weld everything from 20 gauge to 1/4", you just have to know how to weld fairly well to do the thicker stuff. but it's a great machine man, should last you a long time and it's more than capable of doing bag jobs and bodydrops, even shaving the body of any truck you can throw at it.

i stockfloored my '86 with a miller 135 and bagged my little bro's truck with the hobart 125

Ive got the 140 and it has worked great for me. I have done some shaving and built all my tube support with it. I'd say it was a good purchase.
