if you wanna read some horror stories check with pirate4x4 and search their forums with the keyword rci and crack. I got those grommits from a local tractor trailer shop for like .30 each in a 10 pack i used them on all sorts of shit.
What model fuel cell did you use? I ran one of their street rod fuel cells for 2 years driven daily without any problems
But the cell was already anodized... so I supported the cell more instead of rewelding everything and anodizing it again...
also I got it for free so I didn't really care...
it was a 2200a 20gal alluminum fuel cell
i wll deffinatly get some of those grommets
I got an RCI fuel cell and the tabs that bolt it down broke off. I am gonna remount it flat across the entire bottom, and use some aluminum flat band for some straps instead of rewelding it.
I havent driven mine yet but i slid my rci up through the bottom and i built the crossmembers so tight that you have to beat it up in there and it holds itself really. then i made some 1/4" brackets with 3M padding on them that holds the fuel cell from the bottom. the tabs just keep mine from sliding up any farther so all the weight is on the flat bottom and the welds are supported by the 1x1. Hopefully i wont have a problem but ill have it tigged back if it starts to leak
with their cells its the vibration that kills them, you really need to isolate it top and bottom of the mount to make sure there is minimal vibes transferred to it.
