has anyone used 75/25 for carbon steel tig welding? the guy where i buy my supplies at says that 75/25 mix works fine and gives a stronger weld than straight argon....

I don't see where it would be a problem, the main point as most everyone knows is to keep atmospheric contaminants out of the weld, in order for the base metals to fuse. I think the only problem you would encounter would be on a non-ferrous metal, i.e. aluminum, magnesium, etc. The chemical compound of those metals is different than carbon steel, and you may have a reactivity problem with the Co2 in 75/25. Just my thoughts on the matter. But, then, I have never tried it.

100% argon all the way man, and make sure that your tungsten is 98% tung and 2% throiated for carbon steel, if you want and your machine can do it the argon will be fine for aluminum but make sure that you have a 100% tungsten, also with steel make sure your point is sharp and with aluminum make sure it is rounded

the 2% is red and the pure tungsten is green if i remember correctly. (color bands at the end of the rod)

nah nah nah, my question was just about the gas, i have decent tig experience.... and for you guys running the thoraited tungsten, theres a lanthanated tungsten that doesnt have the radioactive properties.....

Why wouldn't you want the thoriated. I like to weld with the arc down near my nuts. Bitches ain't pullin that "I'm pregnant" crap with me!
