Norgren makes some great filters/driers with metal bodies which are great for mounting under your truck. The plastic or glass ones really don't stand a chance down on a frame rail. You can also get them with an automatic valve that wil empty the chamber when the liquid level gets too high. I mean, who wants to have to get under their truck and check their driers on a regular basis? Just be aware that the auto drain is only good to 150psi. The same metal bowl w/ manual drain is good to 250psi. A lot of people don't realize that dirt and moisture account for 99.9% of valve body failures. Most valves are designed to work for hundreds of thousands of cycles without failing but dirt and water will eat them up in no time. Especially dump valves left open to the elements.
And yes, put them after the tank. A trap would be of little use before it. You can buy vapor filters to go right after the compressors but those are usually silica based throw away devices and it's not really practical for something outdoors.

ive got a parker trap and all u do is twist the nut on the bottom of it and it will drain. or i guess u could unscrew the hole thing and pour it out.
