New to DuallyScene and quick question

I seem to like 67-72 Chevy dually's and have done a 72 C50 and now working on a 67 C50. I want to change the dually rear on my 67 and go later model hardware with disk brakes. Anyone know when rear disks started on dually Chevy's? Here are a few pic's of the 72 C50. I cut the frame down and added a standard pickup wood bed.

The regular 1 ton duallies didn't get rear disc until the GMT800 series, the 1999 body redesign, but not sure which years have them and which don't.

A more appropriate rear axle for your application might be the Dana 80 used in the 1991-2002 3500HD trucks, they're a chassis cab rear, 10 lug on 7.25" bolt pattern, and have disc brakes. Of course the bolt pattern is smaller than what you've got there on those heavier models but I'm sure an adapter could be made.

Oh, and some of the very first 3500HD's in 1991 came with a Rockwell rear end instead of the Dana unit. Either one would be good.

I would like to go semi 10 lug so I can run 22.5's and get rid of the 20" split rims. I am not sure what the 10 lug pattern is for semi rims. I understand I can get adapters from 8 lug GM or Ford to go to semi 10 lug. I have acquired a super single rim and a 455x55x22.5 tire for fitment purposes once I make the rearend change.

It's just the first few of the 1991's that came with the Rockwell; I didn't even know about them until a couple of early model owners on 3500hd.com mentioned them. All the ones I've seen were Dana 80 which is a pretty tough unit.

But yes, availability of adapters that are already made would be much easier with an 8 lug 1 ton rear vs. a "small" 10 lug heavier rear, since you'd have to get that custom made.

man if that was my truck, i'd stretch that frame back out and make it a car hauler. drive on a laid out 67-72 and rock it!
