What I'm in the process of doing:
First have the chassis baked and sandblasted. Then PPG DP epoxy primer, then bodywork, then another coat of DP epoxy primer. Maybe a coat of ppg k-36 hi build, then PPG DBC base and PPG DC3000 Clear.

can u paint over POR15 with rustoleum?
or
paint por15 over rustoleum?
or will it not stick??
Por 15 needs to go over bare metal, or lightly rusted metal. If there is paint, body filler, dirt, or a rubberized coating on the frame it will not adhere well and will eventually crack and chip off.

So it is better to NOT have bodyfiller when using POR-15?

I really don't see why you couldn't? I don't see it cracking out if you did, because por-15 is strong and doesn't crack or at least it's not suppose to.
I hope you can because I wouldn't use it for what I am doing otherwise. I'll try to call them up and post the info when I get time.

Its not recommended. It is meant to adhere to rough bare metal, or rusted surfaces. It seeps into the pores of the metal and thats how it bonds. Any area where there is bondo it will not be a strong bond, and will eventually crack. If you want body filler on your frame, paint it.

CAN I USE BODY FILLER OR PUTTY WITH POR-15?
Yes. First paint both sides of the rusted area with POR-15; then use body filler or putty as soon as the POR-15 is dry to the touch.
CAN I APPLY POR-15 OVER OTHER PAINTS?
Yes, but you will lose the important benefits of POR-15. You must remember that ordinary paints are weakened by exposure to moisture. POR-15 can't stop rust if it isn't in direct contact with the base metal.
CAN POR-15 BE USED WITH FIBERGLASS?
Absolutely. POR-15 is fully compatible with fiberglass and can be used to repair cracks in gel coat. It will adhere better than polyester resin and has greater strength. Use also with fiberglass cloth to make super-strong surfaces in rusted-out areas. But be aware that POR-15 doesn't contain styrene and thus cannot melt fiberglass cloth like polyester resin does

That still says it needs to be in contact with bare metal to properly adhere. Bondo can be used under the top coat, but the base is what keeps rust out, and seeps into the metal. It sounds like Jance already has bondo on his frame, therefore in those areas the Por 15 would not bond well.

No my frame is all bare metal right now. But I will need some bondo on it later to fill in the grind marks and things like.
It sounds like if I use the por-15 on the frame for the base coat it will be fine. Then do all the body work and then cover it with a top coat, correct? Thanks for the info!
