Mazda Rear NEED HELP!

Drove the truck alittle today and it seamed geared real low this is the first time i have really driven it since the 351/c6 have been in it. So when i got home i jacked up the ass end and counted the times the driveshaft went around. 1 complete revolution of the wheel the driveshaft only spun around twice so that would mean im in the 500 (somthings correct me if im wrong!) But i need to no if any other stock mazda has lower gears like an automatic or something! Or if any company makes lower gears for my truck 65mph, im tackin like 3500 rpm...( oh yea i almost forgot to say im running 205/55/16's on chevy wheels...

HELP!

P.S. i have also heard that the 2nd gen rx7 gears will work in the mazda rear. Is this true? and is so is there anyplace that makes ring and pinions for them?

86-93 mustang rear and you'll be fine.

Yes i no man but i'd like to keep 6 lug and i'd like to keep the rear thats in it in there for the summer to cruise to shows and everything. Any other ideas on how to get more top end?? I was told that Auburn and powertrax make gears for this rear but i can't confirm it, The truck has 373's in the axle now but seems like it has 560 somethings in it. Russ D or anyone have any Ideas? Till i can do IRS next winter??

find either a ford truck rear or mustang rear or other vehicle, with like 3.08 or 3.25 gear ratio. when you do the irs hopefully you wont be doing an import, most of those are like 3.7-4.1:1 ratios. if you wanted to keep the 6 lug, try a chevy truck rear end narrowed, 6x5.5, and they come in a 3.08. and if you go with the chevy the ring and pinion sets arent too expensive if you wanted to change out to a higher ratio.

I think i have solved most of the problem to gain a little better highway cruising speeds, I have been told that the older 82-84 or w/e ring and pinion gears will just bolt right in and that there 3.30 instead of 3.73's can anyone confirm that they will bolt in? or even work for that matter...

mazdas have an open rear differential, so you have to rotate the wheel TWICE. The open wheel takes half the revolutions (sometimes its not exactly half, sometimes it rotates 1.3 on the drive wheel and .7 on the open wheel) so you can either:

a) leave one wheel on the ground when you turn the other and count the revolutions of the driveshaft or
b) rotate the wheel twice and count the revolutions of the driveshaft.

Your count of 2 indicates a rear axle ratio of 4:1, which is very close to what it should be, the mazdas all came stock with 3.90 rear gearing. I have heard the earlier pinion is lower, but as to whether it bolts in or if it will be strong enough for a V8, I dont know.

^ a mazda would stall out if it was forced to try to spin 2 wheels......

Miller makes a locker for it so does Lincoln either would work for a while with a v8 in front of it. thats my plan after i put the superchared 3.8 in. other then that i dont know of any.
