I have only heard a few of the new W1's and I am impressed with the sound quality of them. If you like the heavy bass I would go with 4 of them depending on what truck they are going in. I am going with two 12W1's in the future which is plently for what I want. If you go JL you can't go wrong!

id go with 4 , cuz if you get 3 you might want a litle more later on , if 4 is too loud just adjust the amps and the bass levle on the radio

Well here's the issue that comes up with that. The W1s are single 4 or single 8 ohm voice coils. The 500/1 I know is rated for 4 ohm usage and I would suspect that it can run at 2 ohms as well.
3 4ohm W1s will put your amplifier running at a 1.333~ ohm nominal load in parallel wiring. This may be ok with that amp and it may not, I have no experience with the JL amps. 3 8ohm models would give you 2.67 ohms which that amp would be more at home with.
Now, if you went with 4 subs your final impedance will work with that amp better. 4 4ohm models would put you at an even 4 ohm load to the amp in series/parallel wiring. 4 8ohm subs would give you 2 ohms in series/parallel.
And you can't mix subs of different impedances with optimum results. So choose wisely what will work with your amp
