Is it a MUST to use DP90 or an epoxy primer before using primer on bare metal? My bed is almost completely stripped down to bare metal and after pricing DP90 I am wondering if it's a must? I priced PPG and it was $200 a gallon. I'd like to spray 2K and go on but not if it's going to cause problems.

May be a stupid question, but while grinding off the factory paint I didn't see an epoxy layer so I thought I'd ask.

YES, YOU EITHER NEED TO USE DP SEALER OR A METAL ETCHING PRIMER BEFORE PRIMING ,IF NOT THE PRIMER WILL FLAKE...

as long as you spray the bare metal with a self-etch or epoxy primer, you'll be good

the DP-90 is good stuff...I used DP-48, very convienient. Saves you from having to spray a self etch, then primer ..plus it comes in a variety of colors, so no need for any primer tinting (unless you're very picky)

it'd b a really good idea 2 spray a sealer first. my brother primered his bumper 1 time without it and after a while it started 2 flake and show signs of rust underneath.

just look for a DTM primer (direct to metal) or else like everyone else is saying it will flake off

yes you need to use a self etching primer , dupont now has vari-prime in spray cans, it fuckin works killer & runs about 16 bucks a can , it comes in light & dark grey , the dark grey is A4114s, i can't remeber the light grey but we use it in my shop very convenient& cuts costs

Yes it is a must on something with thats much medal showing to use a epoxy primer and then use ur blocking primer on top of that. You will get by with just 2K on like a small lil ding or something with a tad of medal showing but nothing like this. However i do not recomend using DP by ppg its nothing like it used to be will not stop rust like used to! Good luck !
