that clear tank looks like a whammy tank for hydros prohoper use to make a clear one. looks sweet tho. and you could put dye in it but you would have to keep refiling it since ud dump it out.

they build pressure vessels at my work and there is a reason they are cylindrical. at 175 psi though it may not be as important with a heavy gauge steel but make sure it's tig welded to avoid leaks. the pressure vessels are 1/2 to 3 inch thick steel and are flux core welded with multiple passes, so i am sure they are holding thousands of psi.

i like the lexan tank the best and it wouldn't really be that expensive, really only 2 ends pretty simple to make and the rods to thread and chrome it all. prolly not more than 3 or 4 hundred total. really the best original idea in a few years. why not have a big pony keg sized lexan tank molded with a hole the same size or a lil bigger as the NR frontier. Then you could airbrush some graphics inside with a negative space effect and make it look badass. I have been doing RC car bodies for years, the plastic makes the instant clear coat. poon

Wow, I was thinking the same thing!

Also be very careful when using plastics. Many are not designed to hold air pressure. I sell plastic pipe for a living (pvc, abs, etc) and I'll tell you right now it is extremely unsafe to use plastic pipe with air pressure beause if it breaks you get plastic daggers flying through the air! We make a clear pvc pipe and even though it is rated to 200+ psi when used with water it is no good for air.

I've seen people use PVC pipe to plumb air lines in their workshops from an air compressor....bad idea! You need to use a composite PVC/aluminum pipe or something similar.

it has nothing to do with 'what' is used. tanks are rounded because the arc disperses the stress all around it. with a tank that has an edge, like a box, all the stress is excerted at the corners so the structure would need to be extremely strong to withstand the same pressure.

also, AirRideTech made some of those clear air tanks for a SEMA truck once. it was three of them tho, stacked on top of each other (two on the bottom, one on top) and the end plates were like 1" think billet aluminum.

I thought the question was to use something different instead of a regular tank,"ANY IDEAS",NOT to questions each others ideas,

Matt I was about to say the same thing about the clear tank!!! Yeah it is a clear whammy tank and it is 2 blocks that probaly have been welded and redrilled and tapped with threads.

i would never build my tank in my frame. it would suck when u drag through the bottom of your frame....psssssssssss

Where M is mass, P is pressure, V is volume, d is the density of the pressure vessel material, and s is the maximum working stress that material can tolerate. Other shapes besides a sphere have constants larger than 3/2.

So, for example, a typical design for a minimum mass tank to hold helium (as a pressurant gas) on a rocket would use a spherical chamber for a minimum shape constant, carbon fiber for best possible d/s, and very cold helium for best possible mass/PV.

hit all you physicists and engineers with a bit of knowledge. The spherical shape at the end of tanks disperses pressure and can take the stress of the air system better. Refrence "stress" in any physics book to understand.
