hey, i just found one of these benders in my dads garage. it says its a 12 ton hydraulic bender. has dies for 1" 1.25" 1.5" and 2", the dyes are for round bar.

just curious as to if anyone has ever tried one of these benders before, and what they thought of them. I dont see it being a very high performance bender, but it looks like it could work ok for smaller jobs, or occasioal use.

anyone?

its not that exact bender, his is orange and white.

just curious as to if its complete junk or not.

i would be wanting ot bend 1.25diam .25 wall DOM

yes they stink, they don't make the smooth bends, they make bends like at a muffler shop "crush bent",you may want to look into a JD Model 3 these make smooth "mandrel" bends

yeha, they're garbage. Those are pipe benders, not tubing benders..VERY different. Save your cash and get either the JD2 model 3 or the Pro-tools 105....

just so ya know guys theres a huge difference in exhaust pipe and the 1 1/4", 1/4" wall dom hes bending. you can use that bender to bend what you are using. it will start to flatten the bend if you are trying a sharp 90 degree bend, but it will make a decent wider bend, say you bend it 30-40 degrees, move the metal over an inch, another 30 degrees, etc. that DOM you are using is very strong, so it wont kink.

the jd squared benders are nice but those style benders will still show indentions on the tubing if its a thinner wall, no where near the quality of a mandrel bender.

they wont kink 3/16 and 1/4 wall tubing. brandt said back in the day his truck was built with one from harbor freight! if you have thinner walled stuff, you can put sand in it and it wont kink either. they are good to learn on and good to start out with. they can put out some really nice pieces.

what exactly does the hydraulic bender do to the pipe? Does it crinkle it or leave and indention in the bend? I hear if you pack the tubing or piping with sand than it won't do that
