the watts has two bars, one mounts to the frame on each side and the center is mounted to the axle. this holds the axle directly in the center thru the entire travel. set up properly the axle wont move even 1/4" to either side.
Michael....can u post a pic?
A watts link with a 2 link is just wasting money. There is no sense in coupling a sophistacated lateral locating device with the most basic of link setups going. Do what Steve said and hook up a trac bar instead. You may be able to modify your panhard bar to use as a trac bar. This would definitly keep it on the cheap and fix your axle shifting woes too.
theres really no sense in using a 2 link in the first place but people do it.
certainly need something other than a panhard bar. a trac bar is the least expensive. the watts is the best looking and coolest. the cheapest watts link kit I know of is the one speedwaymotors.com sells, its like 70 or so. mine starts at 150 and goes up from there.
if you dont have a trac bar, I can also make those cheap.
I still have two more questions though: Does the trac bar hang below the axel? and does anyone have a picture of these pieces installed?
the trac bar is typically on the 2 link bars, or on a 4 link it will be mounted on the 2 lower bars. so yes its below the axle. you can get one with hiems and tabs ready to install and adjustable without removing the bar for about 50 bucks.
not sure who all makes them. I do
