OK erik, dude the wheel has a center cap so you shouldn't even be having a prob:

1.)Call around and have the wheels drilled 6 on 5.5 (aka 6 on 139.7) because the cap will cover the two drill patterns. Backspacing wise, you will be find, everything I have heard is that Mazdawg's take a high positive offset.

I would recommend actually measuring the backspacing and not going off of "everything I have heard." Could bite you in the ass. I'd want to be sure they'll tuck before I sink a bunch of money into them.

I don't know how Cali is, but you can't find anyone in the midwest that will redrill a set of WHEELS due to liability issues. May be different out there though.

6.5 thats it but yet how can an izuzu pickup tuck these? and not a mazda dont tell me cause the stock fender flares cause the 4x4 sheetmetal allows a lil more for tuckage

90% of wheel companies are based out of Cali. Also, any machine shop should be be able to dual drill a set of wheels for you.

seriously?

The isuzu was built to be a little larger than a mini, and is closer in physical size to a dakota.

But that has nothing to do with why a isuzu will tuck wheels a mazda wont, the offset of an isuzu is way different because they are made by two different manufacturers. The manufacturers use their own track widths, and hang sheetmetal differently. Way back when I had a spacecab, I ordered 17x7 Centerline Spears and only needed a 4.25 backspace. In fact I have seen a few Isuzu's lately with 20's that would flat chew up fenders on any other 6 lugger mini. That std cab izzy with the centerline hollywoods gives me serious wood.

Nissans will tuck slightly less offset than a mazda too, its just how the manufacturer sets up the track width. Mazdas need more offset than any other. Welcome to owning a mazda.

Hey Russ-D do you know if a 18x8 with 5.5 back space will tuck on a mazda?

well, I'll tell ya, but this time I'll tell you so everyone can just refer back to this thread.

1. backspacing isnt what you need to worry about on a mazda. Sounds like its the most important thing, but its not. What actually keeps wheels from tucking on a mazda is the FRONT SPACING.

Front spacing? Have I lost my mind?

Its like this. The back of the wheel isnt what keeps wheels from fitting on a mazda. Its the part that sticks out past the hub. Since we can only talk about backspacing when we know width, its hard to keep it all straight. 5.25 inches is enough backspace on a 7 inch wide wheel, but not on an 8... Too confusing. So here is my solution, so everyone can get a quick answer if any particular wheel will fit.

First, a ground rule. Wheels that are X inches wide are actually X+1 wide. So when you want to measure a wheel, you'll measure lip to lip, not the width of the rim. The beads add a half inch each side, so when you talk about a 7 inch wide wheel it is actually 8 inches wide. This is important to remember because backspacing (and front spacing) take this extra half inch on each side into account.

So now, to the front spacing. We know for sure that a 5.25 inch backspace rim fits a mazda if the rim is 7 inches wide. We also know from the ground rule, that this wheel is 8 inches wide. So now we know that the FRONT SPACING, the amount that sticks out past the hub, is 8 minus 5 equals 2.75 inches. But wheel companies dont tell you front space, they only tell you backspace. So how will front spacing help us? Easy. Use the following equation. wheelwidth plus 1 minus frontspace = MINIMUM AMOUNT OF BACKSPACE

So now when you look at a wheel,do the math. If a wheel is 7.5 inches wide you'll need 7.5 plus 1 (for the lips) minus 2.75 (front spacing) equals 5.75 inches backspace..

So your question: is 5.5 on 18x8 enough?

8 plus 1 minus 2.75 = 6.25 inches backspace. No, 5.5 isnt enough.

eric, your wheels will fit with the 4x4 sheetmetal, it gives you about a .5 inch extra tuck. And everyone remember, try wheels on the BACK, the front has camber and will tuck wheels that would stick out on the back.

But remember from now on, width+1-2.75= backspacing needed.

I know nissans will tuck a 5 inch backspace 7 inch wide wheel, so their front spacing is 3. I'll do the offset calcs on a study break and post that too, so you can have a simple formula for figuring out those too.
