First off they have heritage and a story behind them that most dont know of with new cars...its not the same building a new car to me now days after doing older ones for a while. There is a sense of style about older classics that the new cars seem to just lack in my opinion. Yes you can generally start with something worth less, but in the long run if you are building it right it is going to cost more. It will have turn-around or re-sale value though, as a newer car will not. For me its about pulling up at a light or going to a show and some old guy coming up and saying "my Dad had one of these when I was young", or "I learned how to drive in one of these"...to me thats just cool

Its cool to see an old school with a new school twist ya know? Besides, its like our 51 pick up just has more personality then my taco for example. The resale value doesnt hurt either.

I think a contributor to the trend is the fact that, the people that had them when they were young are now retiring and want what they once had.

If you have watched the Barrett-Jackson auction the past few years, the going price for 60's to early 70's vehicles has doubled in most cases.

I do like the new trend of keeping the factory colors, trim, and interior on the C-10's, F-100's, etc... It looks nice.

"Classic" will always be classic, however every year more cars are becomming "cool". I bought my Caddy in the early 90's when you couldn't give them away. 1966 was too new for me, but it was a vert and it was 500 bucks so I dragged it home. Two hours and a new ignition switch later, I had my summer cruiser. I think it's cool that the mini I drove in high school is now considered classic. It looks like classic mini trucks are getting more and more popular. As far as the money goes...if you are building to make money you will always lose. Buying someone's old project will always be more econimcal than trying to put together those same parts yourself. Maybe thats because I build what I like and not what I think everyone else likes. Clearly the classics are getting more money due to supply and demand. There just aren't a lot of them left.

i think its the body lines and style that people like. The newer stuff just dont have it, along with the attitude of the old cars. you know the duke days and good old boys. i mean After about midde 70s everything started loseing its appeal to me and sucked for the most part since. I dont think that the old style ever left but its the newer stuff is easier to get plus no one fells guilty to cut up a ride from the 80's to now. there are plenty around. atleast for now lol.my first project was a 67 f-100. To be honest i still like it beter than my mini, but gas is so high for an old v8s. I also could bring my self to cut it up because of the memories in the truck and being my first cut up ride i didnt wanta go to far with it and get in over my head and not be able find the parts i break. to rap it up the classic will stay the most wanted and the 80s up i dont think will ever be a true classic unless there is some dramatic changes witch there are some signs of good change.

here's my 2 cents i think that they are popular because someones old man had one back when they were young and it's just kind of a fever, you can do a lot more with old vehicles because there are more aftermarket parts available, whereas if you go buy a brand new vehicle chance's are there's not as many aftermarket accessories available yet. a lot of the newer vehicles have more plastic and are harder to modify then old ones which are steel.

i like 'em all.

If I had my choice I'd still build a new chevy or titan though if i had the money.

Oh come on the real reason you are seeing so many is easy it is a trend. I am sure people love them don't get me wrong but people that used to make fun of me and a couple of my friends for being into classic metal. Are now saying "I have always been a big fan" but you used to make funny of us but you were always into it. Classics are just that classic beautiful real metal works of art. However the band wagon began and now everyone is jumping on. I personally like it because a ton of old metal is being brought back to life! That means it will be around longer rather than end up in the compactor!

Once again I think it is a trend but a trend I can personally live with.

My first ride was a 1962 Ford Galaxie. Unfortunately it will probably be the last classic/antique I will ever desire to own. I guess it stems from a bad personal experience. I was hit head on in it about 3 years ago. I had a ton of money in that car. Not to mention the blood, sweat, and tears I poured into that thing. It was probably 70% restored and close to repaint. The insurance company offered me $1800 to begin w/and after gettin my lawyer involved, all I could squeeze out of them was $3300. I did get a whole lot for pain and suffering, but the point is that I didn't invest in this car for a turn around in profit. This was my first ride and was gonna be w/me till the day I died. I couldn't put a value on it. And if I could, it damn sure wouldn't be $3300. I had easy 5 times that in it. Needless to say, it taught me a valuable lesson. I bought a new car almost 2 months after the wreck w/0% interest, and even after 3 years of payments and depreciated value, I can still sell this car for a profit. And not a measly one either. I will always have a desire to own another old classic, but I will probably never allow myself to buy another one. I know it's a unique situation, but they are only worth money if they are completed and they almost have to be sold in mint to make a decent profit. Just my experience.
