I don't know if this point has brought up (I didnt want to read all the posts) but when you build a truck and go to sell it, it takes FOREVER to sell it cause of the people that complain about "built not bought". It took me forever to sell my old truck. Let's encourage these people to do it. Besides, it helps preserve trucks like Last Look.
i built one have another i the worx and i bought a guy from cambers truck cause i liked it not to say "i built this" i wanted a nice truck to roll and have fun with thats all
this forum topic comes up every month if people didnt buy built or semi built trucks how the hell would we ever get rid of them if we wanted to??? i just dont care much for people who buy built rides who are extremely cocky, assholes,or think their shit dont stink...oh and the ones who claim they did work they didnt do....but other than that...more power to the people who want to buy built rides...

Thanks
Like many others, I just jumped around this thread and didn't feel like reading all of it, cause I'm sure there are many other opinions like mine...
I have been into minis since I was 14 (I'm 23 now), never once in my life have I had the desire to weld, cut or fabricate, I went to college for graphic design and photography. Does this make me less of a minitrucker?
I have a 2006 GMC Canyon Crew Cab that I had full intentions of laying out. After shopping around at a few shops, I came to the conclusion that it was going to cost me between $10-$15,000 just to put it on the ground. So I had the idea that it may be a better alternative to buy someone's 1/2 done project. I have found about a half a dozen bagged/bodydropped trucks for between 4-8 grand that I could buy and have something to roll while I saved money to make it my own. For me, it comes down to a dollars and sense issue.
Now if I had the skills to weld/fabricate/know frame geometry etc. I'm sure it wouldn't cost me nearly as much to lay out my Canyon. However, I work a 9-5 and work 5:30-2am on my own business. I don't have the time to put into a full blown project and why cut up a perfectly good truck when I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have some great minitruck friends who are very capable of helping me out and extremely knowledgable but all have projects of their own. I don't find it necessary to put undue stress on myself or them to get my trucks where I want them.
I work hard for my money and pay for all the work I am going to be having done to whatever mini I decide to pick up. Personally, I think that is just as good as building it yourself.
I know this is already a rant, but think of all of the UNSAFE shit that you see out at shows from people claiming "Built not Bought". There are so many people who don't know anything about building that the vehicle is no longer road worthy. Just my 2 cents...

who comes up with this shit
Someone start playing the minitrucker rap song
I know who comes up with this crap. It's companys trying to make a buck on the younger croud.
hmmm i think they mean well but i have never seen them drag their own trucks and the worst one "drag that shit" because im gonna drag my 7g paint job to make you smille I don't think there intention is anything shy of making money. You can identify the people that mean well because there broke or have worked decades to get a small piece.Just like any other industry someone will be there to exploit it.
like a few of the guys have said on here whats wrong with buying some else's ride done or not done.I'm sure there are a few guys/gals who have bought someone else's project 1/2 done or all done the main thing is do not take the credit and say i built it thats what will bite you in the ass give credit were creidt is due.if people do not buy our 1/2 done or all done projects how would we build our next ride?Look at fester he bought last look and he is trying his best to keep it like the day it was created does that make him any less of a mini trucker NO it makes him a good person for trying to show people some of the coolest rides that are or were out there.it's been said on here a few times some people may not have the time, money or talent to build there own so who cares the main thing is that they joined in a great hobbie/indusry.this thing of built not bought is crap.jance said it the best no one can do everything we all take at least 1 or more objects to someone else for there knowlegde or talant.this deal of i did every thing is a muddy topic as how far do you want to go with it if you built it then that means you made your own steel, rims, tires seats gagues doors hoods grills ,lights engine's no one does everything we we all have bought something for our rides hence built not bought is false advertising
I am sure you have people that can buy a truck than build it because they can. ($$$)
Do you look down on a person if they buy a house vs. building it themselves? Did you make your clothes or did you buy them? Did you go out to eat or did you hunt it down and cook it? Did you make your tires out of rubber or did you buy them? Do you drive on a state provided road or do you make your own roads. As stupid as this last paragraph sounds, guess what.
Everyone has a weakness some are skills to build a mad ride and some are skills to make the $$$ to buy a mad ride.
my two cents.
ive had bought trucks and ive built trucks. now ive boughten a truck with work done and it was bad ass, i drove it daily for years, wish i still had it, and ive had another built truck(pornrunner) that was an udder pile of shit, work was nice but the truck had no integrity, driving it sucked, etc etc.
the trucks and cars ive built have always been the best because ive known every inch of them, if something felt weird i knew where it was coming frm, if it had a problem, i could tell where it was at. with someone elses shit its usually someone elses shit! but not always the case.
i say buying a ride done is no diff than building one, as long as your humble about it.
a guy in my club bought the hot wheels s10 after it was featured, pile of shit, hasnt seen the road since, been in the shop being rebuilt. thats bullshit. but there are some sweet rides out there. the guy that has my caddilac will not trade or sell for anything, he loves it, and thats because its built with integrity and it is complete.
what im getting at is that getting someone elses vehicle is grounds for a whole new world good or bad, more often then not probably bad. but hey, as long as your nto a poser and claim the work if you didnt do it, by all means.
people ask me who chopped your truck. i say IF, cuz they did, i didnt do it.
peaople say who backhalfed it, i say me, cuz i did, etc. etc etc. good luck to anyone who gets a built truck, could be great, but could be a turd.
I say once you sell it, you shouldnt be butt hurt over anything the owner claims. You didnt love it enough to keep it, so let it go. When I sold my crewcab (StreetTrucks cover July 2005) I didnt really care if the new owner said he built it, or he bought it, or the tooth fairy left it under his pillow. All I cared about was I had my money.
