I actually enjoy the whole building process. I like fabrication, a lot.
If I was rich, I would still build my own stuff, I would just build MORE! But I would still outsource bodywork/paint and interior, because those things I do not enjoy so much.
I am in the process of bagging my ranger right now and if I had the option I would send it to a shop. The craftsmanship in a shop would be a higher quality. Not that mine isn't quality it just takes more time and effort on my part. I do enjoy my time in the garage but it does take away from my time with my kids. And if I had to buy an already completed truck to stay in the sport I would.
You can buy so many trucks and cars decked out with custom fabrication, mods, custom interiors and sh*t you never even thought of, for thousands less than if you were to buy a stock vehicle and do it yourself. The main thing I think is, making it your own when you get it. "Last Look" is a different story...that's preservation of an icon. But for those who buy a vehicle and show it "as-is" just seems a bit messed up to me. I tell ya what though, I would love to buy Mike Finnegan's old Tacoma and preserve what it was for the most part, but make my old changes to suit me.
"Built not bought" is just a lame term. If that's you, be proud. If you can't do it, pay someone else to and don't be ashamed. Steve at CanDo and myself would be out of business if people stopped going to shops to have work done and hacked their own rides. Would you prefer to see unsafe hackjobs on the road, or safely built customs?

Rhetorical question.
Some people just can't do it bro.
Hell, Bill Belichek can't PLAY football worth a shit...
You know what I'm saying...
I am a big fan of this thread...read probably 70% of the posts...
I am glad that it seems mostly everyone is on the right track...
I like some of those Drop em Wear shirts, but for real, some of those "mottos" bring a negative spin on things...
and they personally brought me into the scene, years back, with a bad attitude-thankfully I have grown to see that those shirts dont represent most of the "scene" and people in it...
I have respect for everyone. If you build your own then congrats. If you buy it built, then change it thats between you and the builder. If you change that truck then thats cool too. TO EACH YOUR OWN. No-one can bitch cause we all know what goes on in this scene. Its not just about the rides, its about the friendships and good times. (Just my 2 cents.)
I only build my own with the help of freinds. The main reason is because im so picky and i couldnt leave my truck anywhere after hearing many horror storys. I dont have any hate toward anyone that will take "shortcuts" if you will in buying one built. Almost all of the people i know that have bought "built" rides have redone like 50% of what was on it.
ive built like 4-5 bagged/bodydropped trucks now, and the next one i do i might just buy it cause im lazy and have a family now. Plus I dont have friends now that are into it and eveyone that i meet whos in the scene is a jackass or they know everything, How nice.

Most people DO know everything. Just ask them. Lol.
