How do you chop springs? specfically how do you take tension off the spring to get it out.... cut it, and how much do you cut for how much of a drop? Thanks in advance.

for getting them out youll need a spring compressor... as for cutting them you want to keep them cool.. letting them get hot ruins them.. cut a bit then cool. etc.. as for how much to get a certain drop its not like that... if you have to cut coils to drop youll have to cut a bit put it in the vehicle set it down see where it is... repeat..
in my opinion it would be way easier and less time consuming to get drop coils!

if you dont have a spring compressor, a pillow case works great when u take that nut off the strut, keeps the parts all together.

and cutting through a coil spring with a grinder and a cut off wheel takes very little time, but like lyinlow said you dont know how much to cut off so you might get it all put back together and it could be too low, then you gotta buy lowering springs anyway, or it may not be low enough and you gotta take it all apart again. fun times but its cheap.

lowered coil springs are usually dirt cheap for a lot of rides. have you checked to see how much drop coils would be for your ride? if they are available cheap why not do it right ? youd be much happier in the end. id check ebay for used drop coils too.

Thanks everyone. Man I wish I had enough money for any drop kit. I dont think they make any for a Crown vic. I want to bag it soon so im svaing for that, i just wish i could drop it about 2" till then. And thought chopping the springs would be altrenative.
