red wire with black chaser...park lights?

something shorted outcausing this wire to burn up...maybe somethings pinched???it popped the tailight fuse so i replaced it with a new fuse but the only kind i had was a 25 amp ,tried it again and poof smoke filled the cab like cheech-n-chong

well you really screwed up putting in a bigger fuse, an ATC automotive fuse will pass twice its rated current for three seconds before blowing. So that was 50 amps through a little 10a 18ga wire...

But aside from that: Check by the corners of the engine compartment, there are sharp edges and wiring likes to rub through. Same with the rear under the bed, people ditch the tag lights and they short out.

If you had smoke in the cab, it could be your dimmer switch, those are prone to go bad. Also, when people put in stereos they dont realize there is no factory ground wire and tie it to the dimmer wire instead of the metal chassis under the radio. Or they leave the dimmer wire bare and it shorts on the radio chassis.

problem solved...wire leading down to radio,not even used,arced out on radio shroud screw!!!its all good now!
