pull the crank nut, you'll need to put the truck in gear and set the brake while you take it off with a breaker bar. You wnt need a puller, you will need to loosen or remove the timing belt first.

If your engine is mysteriously out of time or the timing is walking all over the place and you cant figure out why, the keyway on the nose of the crank (that the toothed pulley you are talking about fits over) has likely broken. Only fix is a new crank. Becoming increasingly common.

If you are talking about the lower timing belt pulley (toothed wheel about 2.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 deep) you just have to pull the crank nut. It is set with a woodruff key in the crank, pull the crank nut in the ned of the crank and it will almost fall off. A little wiggle is usually all it takes.

If you havent removed the crank nut yet and your engine is out and partially dismantled, you will need to wedge the flywheel with a large bar or find some way to keep the crank from spinning. I've done it once this way (engine out, no stand, headless) and it is NOT fun, we ended up using a large piece of bar stock on the flywheel bolts and shocking the crank nut with a breakover bar and a mallet. It finally gave after skinning my friend Crutch's fingers three times (he was holding the bar stock lol)

If the engine is still in the truck and in running order take a 21 mm wrench and put it on the nut, then unplug the 2 connectors on the negative side of the coil, put the truck in neutral and bump the starter once or twice until you hear a thud, should spin right off by hand after that.

If it is out of the truck most impact wrenchs should be able to shock it enough to get it off without having to anchor the flywheel. If not then you'll be having the fun Russ and his friends fingers had, lol.

lol i was gonna say just a good impact wrench will spin it right off...
