I have shaved many of them. I have always made a template to weld in. I know that some people cut out the handle impression and weld in a square piece of metal. What is your opinion on this?

Never cut out the handle, just remove it and filler piece it! It will almost always warp if you cut it out. Just make a filler peice and weld it in.

The stock flange will help retain the body, without it it will definatly warp more.

if u cut it out and weld it in its better i think but much easier to just weld in filler

Leave the factory stamping...this gives that part of the panel rigidity like any type of bodyline would...if you cut it out the panel has less strength and will warp. Think of a pizza pan, if it is just flat you can twist it, but with that little rim its solid..
