i have a 87 mazda b2000 manual ,when running at idle ,when i engage clutch and put in 1,2,3,4,5,r gear the idle goes up and i hear a slight click when i put it in gear (the problem happens when i just sit at idle)
a slight click is the problem?
i dont know if thats the problem/read the whole post the click happens when the clutch engages then the rpms go up
hmmm. If the idle speed is being pulled down by the clutch being engaged I'd suspect a bearing in the tranny. That seems to go along with the click you are hearing too, unloading the tranny should not be noisy.
I've seen a few bad Madzda transmissions, some due to external impact, most due to neglect. You should change out the gear oil to see if its low or in need of changing, and try a lower number. Most people buy 90w gear oil and find their tranny sticks more, the higher the number the higher the viscocity and the more drag you'll see on the engine. Synthetics have been proven to reduce driveline drag, but are pretty expensive.
Could be a bearing or internal problem, I dont know how you drive. If you are beating it up like a race truck, it shouldnt surprise you there is a problem. If you drive like I do though (granny), it may not be so likely. As I said though, check the gear oil first in case its low or too thick.
RUSS THIS TRUCK IN 5 YEARS RAN PERFECT IN THE LAST 2 1/2 HASNT BEEN ON THE ROAD ,I HAVE SLICK 50 IN THE TRANNY ,AND JUST HAD A NEW CLUTCH PUT IN BECAUSE THE THROW-OUT BEARING MADE NOISE BUT BESIDES THAT ITS ONE OF THE BEST MAZDA MOTORS I EVER HEARD THERES A PLUG ON THE CARB(WHITE)WITH 2 WIRES I DISCONNECTED THAT AND THAT STOPPED IT ONE TIME THEN WHEN I GAVE IT GAS IT STARTED AGAIN (SO WHAT IM SAYING IS IF I START THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND DONT PUT IN GEAR IT WONT DO IT (EVEN WHEN I GIVE IT GAS )IM ALL CONFUSED ANY MORE HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED CAN YOU POSSIBLY CALL MY SHOP 610-775-4950 THANK YOU

sounds like the old throwout bearing put a ridge on the input shaft when it went bad. It happens. The click is the new throwout bearing rocking over the ridge, the idle dip is the drag. Whoever put the clutch in should have caught it. The cheapest fix is a replacement tranny because finding a new input shaft and having a shop replace it would be a pain. This is only my opinion from the symptoms you describe, it may still be gear oil related. Last clicking tranny I had though was an internal bearing problem, and shifting got so stiff the shift lever broke. New tranny fixed it right up.
And BTW, the carb has nothing to do with the tranny. There are no vacuum lines or wiring shared by the two, the tranny is a 100% mechanical device.
Make sure the clutch job did not put the tranny in a bind, you should be able to slide the tranny all the way onto the block, you should NOT have to tighten it on there.
IT SOUNDS LIKELY ,I STARTED IT TODAY LET IT WARM UP AND IT HASNT DONE IT WEIRD I KNOW THE CLICKING SOUND IS FROM THE CARB THOUGH IM 100%POSITIVE I CAN FEEL IT WHEN THE CLUTCH ENGAGES ON THE TOP OF THE CARB THERES 2WIRES IF I PUT MT FINGER ON IT AND SOMEBODY ENGAGES THE CLUTCH THATS WERE THE CLICKING COMES FROM BUT THE HIGH RPMS I DONT KNOW MAYBE FOR SOME REASON IT ACTS TOGETHER BUT MAYBE ITS NOT AFFILIATED (I DONT KNOW)
Ok, back to what I said first then, and here is why:
When you engage the clutch, the idle dashpot on the carb sees the engine speed coming up and opens.
I'm still thinking you should change the tranny oil with a lighter weight. Sounds like there is a lot of drag on the engine from having the clutch out. Otherwise, does not sound very serious. If your gear oil is too heavy, you will REALLY start to see it when it gets colder. I dont imagine it gets too cold in Maine though . Just kidding. Did they drain the fuid to do the clutch? They may have filled it with some 90w. I know of people who run 50w in their gearboxes because in cold weather the tranny would have to warm up before the car would even move lol .
ok thanks russ im going to try out the lighter weight gear oil and i appreciate all the help. let u know what happens
also where did u get that valve cover on ur truck
