I am almost finished with my Sonoma Build up and it's time for me to get a battery. I want an Optima but I don't know if I should get a Red or Yellow top. I don't have AC, heat or a huge banging system so I was leaning toward the Red top. The problem is I have been told that the Red tops are junk and I am better off with a yellow top. I just want some feedback on your experiences with either. I know someone personally that had a new Red Top die on him and had to go with the Yellow.
After I pulled the system out of my Ranger I swapped from a yellow top to a red top and never had a problem, even when I left it sitting for a while.
Should work fine for ya and you will keep an extra $50.00 in your pocket for something else.
Well I just purchased a red top battery for my truck, and it's pushing my two viair 450's and a small system in my truck and it kicks ass...I like it alot...no complaints here.
unless you want to display a pretty battery, i'd go with something like an Interstate. I've killed off one red top, and i've replaced 3 yellow tops under warranty and just took 2 more yellow tops to the core shop and sold them for $3 each. If i ever use an optima again, it will be a red top. Also remember, red tops have a 3 year warranty and yellows only have 1.
i bought an yellow top in 03 for my daily and i put it in my s10 not to long ago and i kept dying on me and i took it back to the store and i found out that it had a lifetime warrenty and they replaced it for free
yellow tops are deep cycle. so unless you are planning on draning your battery to almost nothing and then recharging it again, i would go red.
Im not sure about anywhere else, but the optima dealers here wont warranty a red top if its been used with a larger stereo for reasons i dont know but i know guys here whose reds have died on them and they got ffffed over on warranty.....id spend the extra 50 buxx on a yellow
I've had red top in my last truck and my current one. Def worth getting one.
yeah man i just put one on my noma. its hella worth it. I can sit with my system blastin for about an hour with the key off and it fires right up no problem
red tops put out more amps but if you make them go dead by a compressor running while you truck is off they will be screwed. A yellow top is a deep cycle that can be killed and recharged as many times as you want. A yellow top is definately worth is with having compressors.
