i wish i could take credit for the cantilever but i cant. it was designed and built by Bob at beyondsic customs in ontario, canada. beyondsiccustoms@yahoo.ca. he built it from my measurements, and he did a good job for not having my fram to work with. I still have a few things to work out with it, so stay tuned. Its gonna change..again.

I've had 2x3 on it's side under my mazda for well over a year and no problems. So I dunno where you get the no no from.

It's an engineering "no no." The tubing is designed for loads to be applied with the tubing standing on end, not on its side. It has to do with tension and compression loads.

Just because it worked on your truck, doesn't mean that it is the correct way to do it. It means that in that situation there isn't enough force applied to overcome the weakness.
