Anyone here personally have/use a spoolgun for aluminum welding on their Miller 135? My 135 has the small plug on the front for one.. so I was wondering what else is involved.. can I plug the gun right in, or do I need some control module box thing? Gas, wire types? Thanks alot.

Ive answered this before, but you believed the salesman at Airgas over me saying that it is a "direct plug" into the machine

check out the Miller web page
www.millerwelds.com
or your owners manual

you need a sg100 control box and a 3035 spoolgun and of course 100% argon

probably cost you about $600.00 to weld aluminum with that thing and only about 1/8" thickness at that

In my opinion not worth the trouble! You would be better off spending that $600 towards a syncrowave 180sd

thanks for the help man, sorry for not believing you before.. i had just seriously thought it plugged right in from what i heard. $600 is too much.. all i wanted it for was making a fuel cell, would steel be fine?

no problem
I also sell Miller welders so it kinda bums me out that someone would give you bogus info like that!

Steel would work fine, just make sure you coat the inside with a sealer
Most stock tanks(that aren't poly) are steel

You can probably run stainless ok if you wanted the spend the extra $$ on the SS and a trimix gas.

good luck

cut like 1" around the sending unit mount, then weld it to the top of your fuel cell, ive seen a couple built from 16 gauge, some say 14 gauge.

whats the formula to make my fuel cell the same gallons as my stock tank, or close as possible?
