need help badly

I've got a b2200 that I'm redoing the motor in. When I went to put the distributor back in with a new gasket, it wouldn't go. I kept trying to get it to go, and apparently tried a little to hard. I broke the mounting ear/tab off the distributor. Can anyone tell me a way around this? (way to put it back one, etc.) I know there is a trick for a Honda, so surely there is one for these, too. Thanks
