It should be fine. Especially if its a big block. I have a 2000 chevy dually. It pulled like a champ to Ohio to pick up another crew cab dually.
explorers have shit for trannys...I wouldnt suggest any towing for them..I've got one in my junk yard that has a bad trans right now..
thats cool, kinda sucks though, reminds me of when i thought my tranny blew the front main seal, come to find out a cooler line fitting broke on the tranny and it just cracked so it looked like itwas still there....... either way fooled me for a month or so........
I bet branton wishes he would have bought it now, since the tranny wasnt enven tore up!!!!!LOL!!!
what is good to have in your tow pig to help with power, life, saving gas?
A 4.0 Explorer was never intended to pull a vehicle any distance. Boat, jet ski, untility trailer...yes. The weight of a decent car hauler + your Mazda...no. The chassis, transmission, and powertrain are light duty. I'm not saying you even need to go the route of a 3/4 or 1 ton, but I would look in to a 1/2 ton Ford/Chevy/Dodge before I actually laid down some cash for a vehicle. The construction of the frame, transmission, and engine allow for lengthier exposure to the harsh "conditions" of towing than any of the lighter duty vehicle options. Good luck no matter what your decision, do what you dig.
well i came across one for $700 is the reason im askin, 170000 miles, runs good, int and ext are in great shape, new paint job. do you think its worth $700 to try and use it for a tow pig??
As a side note...NOTHING will get good gas mileage if you stack a loaded car hauler behind it. I got about 8 mpg going to Greenville this year in an '05 Chevy HD Duramax pulled an enclosed Featherlite. It sucks. Especially with today's diesel prices.
For $700 it can't hurt to try. It's worth more than that if you blow the damned thing up.
