Has anybody tried a Carb off an old Vega w/ the Weber Adapter. The bolt patterns are supposed to be the same (hearsay to me I have not been able to physicaly check yet) I am currently trying to find one to check. I e-mail Tomco wich Reman Carbs out of St. Louis to see if they have a direct change over or a recomendation on a carb to us w/o emmission BS. (we are still anti-Smog Test here) I am just looking for otehr good carbs to run besides the 300 dollar Weber you know 1 wire 2-3 vacume lines easy setup LOL

honestly the webber may cost a little more than you want to spend on a carb, but they are well worth it. Repacing the stock carb on a mazda should be the first thing you do. Im very happy with mine, made my truck run so much better.

Its hard to say, one mans cheap could be a nother mans nightmare.

For example, the Vega carb: The linkage is on the oppposite side of the rochester/weber copy. Its the same as a DFEV, not the DGEV. SO if you know how to fabricate linkage, thats no big deal. And mounting, if you arent scared of modifying your stock intake, you can install a carb without an adapter. And rebuilding, if you get a used carb you will need to rejet and rebuild, if you are proficient at that, then you will save a bundle.

But looking at it from another perspective, is 400 bucks really that bad for something even an inexperienced wrencher can do in under two hours? I mean, its new, its already sorted, and it bolts on.

Some people can work really hard to save a couple hundred bucks. I probably would, I've never bought a new Weber, and it offends my frugality to pay for something I could do myself.

I may have made too light a point of the mounting, The rochester carb will mount to a WEBER ADAPTER, my nephew is running this carb in this fashion on his long bed. His dad (my brother in law) made a copy of the weber adapter I had at my house.

But it will not bolt on to the stock manifold without some work. Some fairly precise work actually, with a drill press. As a bonus though, the valve cover becomes the tallest part of the engine with this work done..

Just wanted to clarify that.
