Its easiest to:

Unbolt the intake but leave all the carb garbage hooked up. Lay it off to the side. Set the engine to TDC #1 and mark the rotor position on the dizzy before you remove it. Sure you can do it all AFTER, but isnt it nicer just to line stuff back up and bolt it together?

If you are doing it this weekend, start soaking the exhaust manifold bolts in penetrating oil NOW. You'll need the bolts on the pre cat off and maybe on the lower manifold.

From there its pretty simple. This isnt a complete how to, just the high points. A Haynes manual is a big help. Consider replacing the water pump and timing belt while you are in there.

Head bolts should be torqed to 59-64 lb/ft of torque in 2 or 3 steps. I usually do it in 20 lb/ft. increments. If your looking at the head from the front of the truck start with the 3rd bolt back on the right side and go clock wise. Also after the truck has ran 200-500 miles torque again in sequence. If you don't retorqe the bolts after it has ran a few hundred miles some of them will loosen up and in about a year you'll blow the gasket again.
