i used to be ASE air brakes, and diesel.. but that was many moons ago.

I took the diesel twice, and the air once, it wasn't too bad.

ive never seen the point, and i definetly dont intend nor want to ever be ase certified. in my opinion its just a bunch of crap so the big wigs can brag about you. the true mechanics and technichians dont need the piece of paper. they are kind of the stand alone out of the main crowd people.

it's called being qualitifed for a job...

much like a college degree is worthless, it just weeds out slackers and people who have 0 skill. Not saying someone who's not stupid can't pass a ASE/College, but it does take out the obvious duds.

it just takes brains....anybody can take a test, but not everybody who is ASE certified has the actual skill to do the work

ASE certification for auto collision is kinda pointless, at least in GA. Here almost no one is certifed for collision, mostly mechanics get certified.

yeah you need them if you plan on gatting a good pay rate for some places, ive worked for pepboys for 7 years now, up untill about three years ago i was topped out (no ase certs) then i took all the tests at onece (except l1) passed and got a $4 an hour raise, then i got the l1 which was an other $1, i also got payd back for the tests and a$500 bonus for passing l1, its worth it in my book

but it dont mean dick if you cant turn a wrench...got an old dude workin with us... got all ase's and he breaks shit faster then we can fix his fuck ups lol
