ignition? or starting problems?

okay i think it might be the little screw that holds the steering column cover on b/c it screws into the ignition thing.? my battery is hooked up.. and ive never had this problem before... if it was that screw is it a long screw or short? when i put the key in and turn it to start the engine it does nothing even my lights dont turn on... any info would be nice...
