making a notch?

1/8 or 3/16 nis just fine. i wouldn't use 1/4 honestly. most 220v welders us minitruckers buy for our shops/garages are too weak for 1/4 unless we double pass each side. I don't understand why people insist on using too much when "just enough" is perfect for our application.
