s-10 tranny help

I have an ext. 84 s-10 with a 2.8 4 speed. i have a 5 speed to go in it that came out of a longbed 85 s-10. Can i just swap trannys or are the bell housings different. also will ihave to do something with the drive shaft, like shorting it.
