Looking to buy a mazda...need advice.

Hey guys, im looking to buy a 92 mazda b???? pup. The question is, i have 2 jobs and both require that i drive my own car. Since its winter time wife thinks we need a 4wd

So im wondering if i bought a 4wd then in the summer yank the 4wd off..so i can b-drop it and such. Is there any reasons i would not want to do this..(besides cost)
Is the 4wd tranny geared differently? If so is it for better or worse? Anything else i may run into?
