97 DAKOTA door popper placement

I just bought a 97 dakota with shaved handles (will post pics soon) but the poppers are located at the bottom of the door jam.....this doesnt seem to pop the door i was wondering if you could install the poppers towards the middle of the door...will the door close all the way if i place them there.....ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANKS
